With heavy bouts of rainfall, it is common to the gutter getting clogged with all kinds of debris. Twigs, leaves and other contaminants floating in water can create a block in the pipe works of your home. This could later lend up flooding your patio or might even cause damage to equipment. Apart from that blocked gutters can also end up being a breeding ground for insects. Here area some tips to help you keep you home and family safe and secure.

Ensure that while climbing up the ladder; it does not lean against the gutter. Leaning against it could possibly bend or break the gutter pipe and totally upset your draining system.

Use a gutter scoop to clear out all the leaves and twigs that settle on your gutter. Place a bag on your ladder or on the rooftop to facilitate easy collection of debris.

Gutters if not frequently cleared are susceptible to mildew growth because of the wet and muddy conditions they are constantly subjected to. Hence make it a point to clean it every now on then so that they not get severely clogged.

Use a chisel if you must, to carefully scrape out all forms of dirt so that the gutter pipe can drain out water efficiently.

Make sure the downspout is not clogged with any impurities that may impair the draining system. Take a bent hanger to scoop out debris from remote corners.

Check for unwanted leaks throughout the gutter pipe to ensure no holes have been left unsealed. Bead silicon is a good alternative for fixing leaks.

Run a blast of water from a hose pipe on to the gutters to fully cleanse the plumbing system of any leftover impurities. In case the water does not drain freely through the drain pipe it may indicate some unresolved clogging issues. Work towards clearing out the remaining debris.
